Bozeman's volunteer-built fairgrounds rinks

Gallatin Ice traces back to 1977, when the Bogert Pavilion was built with federal funds specifically as a covered ice rink. Bill Snyder and three other officers formed the Bozeman Amateur Hockey Association in 1983, and the volunteer-run Bogert Park pavilion stayed BAHA's home for 17 seasons through 1991. Refrigerated ice followed at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds in 1999; in 2006 the Valley Ice Garden closed, demand at Haynes nearly doubled, and the building was enclosed and insulated to extend the season. Gallatin Ice itself was created that year as BAHA's fundraising arm.

Today Gallatin Ice operates two adjoining indoor rinks: the Bottcher Memorial Ice Rink on the east side and the Ressler Motors Ice Rink on the west, which opened in 2017 when the Ice Barn was raised and programs and revenue doubled. Each rink has four locker rooms, and Ressler adds a separate girls' locker room and a dedicated referee room.

The west side is mid-renovation. The 2026 work is Phase 2 of the campaign; once it is complete at the end of 2026 the Ice Barn will be renamed the Bottcher Families Community Ice Center, with seating for up to 1,500 fans and new locker rooms for MSU men's and women's hockey and the Bozeman Icedogs.
