Finished in spring 2002 and owned by the City of Brookings; home of the Rangers and SDSU club hockey
The Larson Ice Center was newly built and finished in the spring of 2002. The City of Brookings owns and operates the two-rink facility, which has a main Red rink with seating for 1,350 and a second Blue rink with seating for 450, plus ten locker rooms, large heated viewing areas and an upper-level concession area. Renovations have followed over the years, some completed as recently as the fall of 2019.
The Brookings Rangers and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits club hockey teams call the arena home. From 2012 to 2019 it was also home to the Tier II junior Brookings Blizzard of the North American Hockey League. The center provides nearly year-round ice skating for residents of the community.
