Two NHL-size ice surfaces of 200 by 85 feet
The Okotoks Recreation Centre is the Town of Okotoks's multi-use recreation building, home to indoor pools, a hot tub and sauna, a fitness studio, a curling rink, a youth centre and two ice arenas. The Murray and Piper Arenas are both official NHL-size ice surfaces of 200 by 85 feet. The centre's expansion opened in 2006, and the town marked its tenth anniversary in October 2016.
The Murray Arena seats about 1,000 spectators and the Piper Arena 250. The Murray Arena is named after the Murray family, and in January 2020 it hosted the Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts. More than 25 user groups and over 4,300 registered participants use the two arenas each year for competitive and recreational hockey, figure skating, and family and public skating.
The ice is in from September to April. In spring, when some or all of it comes out, the concrete floors take roller hockey, lacrosse and community events such as the Chamber of Commerce Business Expo.
