Three NHL-size arenas in one of Alberta's largest recreation centres

SLS Centre, the Spray Lake Sawmills Centre, covers about 325,000 square feet and is one of the largest multi-use recreation facilities in Alberta. The Town of Cochrane and Rocky View County co-own the building, which is run by a not-for-profit registered charity with a volunteer board. Besides the ice it houses an aquatic centre, curling centre, climbing wall, sport court, indoor track and gymnastics centre.

The ice is three NHL-size arenas, Totem 1, Totem 2 and Totem 3. Totem 1 is home ice for the Cochrane Generals, a Junior B club that has represented the town since 1984. User groups fill the sheets with recreational skating, figure skating, hockey, ringette and skill training. SLS Centre also operates the Cochrane Arena, a fourth sheet that comes with a childcare centre, a snack house and a program room.

The curling centre hosted Alberta's junior curling provincials in February 2022. With more than 150 drop-in classes and registered programs each week, the building stays busy well beyond the ice.
