The first arena built by a Calgary community, and the rink that helped bring ringette to the city.
Triwood Arena was the first arena built by a community in Calgary, and the Triwood Community Association describes it as the first community-owned facility in the city. It was also instrumental in bringing ringette to Calgary. The association recently celebrated 65 years of Triwood.
The arena is home to Calgary Northwest Ringette and the Northwest Warriors, and through the winter it carries minor hockey and ringette programs as well as adult hockey and ringette teams. In summer the floor hosts ball hockey and roller hockey leagues, and in winter volunteers help maintain the association's heavily used outdoor rink.
In 2009 federal and City of Calgary funding paid for upgrades including a dehumidification system and other mechanical and structural improvements. The work was meant to bring better ice conditions and to extend the arena season by up to one month. Public skating here carries no admission charge.
