A 1977 community rink where the Flames once practised
The Forbes Innes Arena opened on October 1, 1977, built through the work of volunteers from the Thorncliffe Greenview communities. In its early years it was a well-known Calgary rink, with the Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota North Stars practising here. It belongs to the Thorncliffe Greenview Community Association, formed in 1956, which grew from a one-room hall into a multi-use recreation and event centre.
The arena was renovated in 2010. It has a 185-by-85-foot sheet, seating for 200 plus standing room, a heated viewing area, change rooms, a concession and an independently run skate shop. Youth and adult hockey, figure skating, ringette and public skating share the ice.
Public skating is seasonal, with a Sunday session and a Wednesday morning skate for seniors 55 and older, and the association invites skaters to enjoy some leisure skating with their neighbours and friends. Games and practices on the ice are streamed through LiveBarn.
