Built privately in 1996 at Monéteau; its roof carries 232 solar panels
CyberGlace opened in 1996 in Monéteau, beside Auxerre. Its founders, the skating master Alexandre Riccitelli and the engineer Thierry Vœgeli, who had worked at the public-works group Bouygues TP, built what they call the first completely private ice rink in France, on a 6,917 m² plot bought for the purpose.
The sheet measures 56 by 26 metres. The building runs on electricity alone, using under 700,000 kWh a year while open all twelve months, and 232 solar panels covering 800 m² now sit on its roof. The rink reports about 40,000 visitors a year and says it has had no public aid since 1996.
Beyond public sessions the ice serves sports clubs, private training and shows. The building doubles as a modular stage, and the Compagnie Moins 5, a cultural association producing original live shows, is in permanent residence. Since 1996 it has also been a showcase and test bed for the company NewPatinAge, whose flagship project it is.
