One of Slovakia's oldest winter stadiums, home of HC 05 and, since 2016, run by the town's MBB company
Banská Bystrica's winter stadium opened on 25 December 1956 and was roofed in 1966, and its operator calls it the oldest covered winter stadium in Slovakia. It holds 3,518 and is home to HC 05 Banská Bystrica.
Hockey has been played in the town since 1922-23. The stadium's own history page names Michal Handzuš, Richard Zedník, Vladimír Országh, Ivan Majeský and Tomáš Surový among the well-known players who came up here.
The south stand, which was in poor condition, was rebuilt in 2009, and in May 2014 work began on the north stand and on a complete new cooling plant. In 2016, fifty years after the roofing, the town's company MBB a.s. became owner and operator. The company lets pupils of the town's primary schools skate free in the mornings.
