Annual volunteer-run ice rink on the Liemersplein whose proceeds fund Christmas hampers for local families
Currently out of season The rink's site says the 19th edition of the IJsbaan Duiven runs from 4 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 on the Liemersplein; no sessions are listed here before the opening day. Checked on 8 October 2026. Official schedule update
IJsbaan Duiven is called the biggest community event of the Liemers region and is set up every year on the Liemersplein in Duiven. It is organised by Stichting Winterevenementen Duiven, which has no paid staff and runs entirely on volunteers. Around 150 of them looked back proudly on the 15th edition, which drew more than 100,000 skaters.
Beyond open skating there is school skating, disco skating on Friday evenings for the older children, and a curling competition that has grown to 120 teams, from companies and friendship clubs to political parties. The organisers also trialled using the heat from the ice machine to warm the catering pavilion.
Any proceeds go entirely to mainly local good causes. The most important is a Christmas hamper for low-income families from Duiven, Westervoort and Zevenaar, around 450 of them one year, and those families also get free entry to the rink.
