A covered charity rink on the Raadhuisplein in Ede
Friends on Ice is a covered artificial-ice rink of 600 m² that the foundation Stichting Friends on Ice sets up every year in the centre of Ede, on the Raadhuisplein. The rink project grew out of the foundation Vrienden Ziekenhuis Gelderse Vallei (ZGV), and it has been organised in the centre of Ede for ten years, drawing more than 30,000 visitors to the town centre during the project.
The foundation's main aim is to organise a sporting event for all residents of Ede and the surrounding area, young and old. It has no commercial purpose: all proceeds of the rink go to good causes. For six weeks volunteers spend hundreds of hours at the till, the Koek & Zopie stall and the bar, and Café De Scheve Schaats stands beside the ice.
