Opened in 1972 for hockey club Stoczniowiec, Olivia was the first hall with an ice rink in Pomerania
Hala Olivia was handed over on 16 December 1972, after seven years of construction, to the Gdańsk hockey club Stoczniowiec. Polish Wikipedia calls it the first hall with an ice rink in Pomerania, and the club's own account says it was built on the initiative of the ice hockey section of the Northern Shipyard. The building was designed to resemble a boat riding the sea's waves, and that shape is what makes it known across Poland.
It has two covered ice rinks, with stands for 3,867 and 800 spectators. The hall was closed from 11 to 28 December 2007 because its roof was at risk of collapse, and the roof was rebuilt and finished in November 2010. It hosted the first historic congress of the Solidarity trade union, and its sporting events include the Division I ice hockey world championships and a boxing fight of Dariusz Michalczewski.
Stoczniowiec played in the Polish Hockey League until 2011 and has been in the first league since 2017; public sessions are held in the small hall.
