Torvalla sportcentrum in Handen grew from a late-1940s motor stadium and now holds two ice halls

The two ice halls in Handen are part of Torvalla sportcentrum, which started as Södra Motorstadion in the late 1940s beside the croft Slätmossen. Speedway and dirt-track races were held there, then stock-car racing, and in 1955 the Åsa-Nisse film "Åsa-Nisse ordnar allt" was shot on the site.
The motor stadium was later renamed Slätmossens IP and built out with sports halls over the years; the latest addition, Torvalla sporthall, was inaugurated in the early 1970s. By 2021 the sports centre counted as one of the largest sports facilities in the Stockholm area, with two ice halls, two full-size grass pitches and a full-size artificial pitch.
Haninge Anchors HC plays its home matches in the ice hall, and Haninge Konståkningsklubb, the figure skating club, is based here too. The athletics club Österhaninge IF also has long roots at Torvalla IP.
