A royal ice club founded in 1906

The Royal Ice Club of Lage Zwaluwe was founded on 26 September 1906, with its rink in the Louisapolder. In 1911 members decided to charge only half the fee again because there had been no ice the previous winter, and on 4 November 1928 the club received royal approval by Royal Decree.

Water has always been a problem for the club, which has long had trouble pumping water onto the rink. In 1945 the committee reported that the small tent lent to the home forces had burned. In 1950 the rink in the Louisapolder had to give way to a new flax foundation and was moved to the north-east side of the old track, and because of the building work it was flooded only on 31 December 1950. In 1961, with work on the outer dike under way, the club once again had no rink.
