The Lomnice nad Popelkou ice stadium: a 57 by 27 metre sheet with modern cooling, run by the hockey club
The ice stadium in Lomnice nad Popelkou has a long history. A natural rink was built on the present site behind the Orlovna in 1953, an artificial ice surface followed in 1980, and the hockey hall was built in 2000. The ice sheet measures 57 by 27 metres. The old discharge lighting was replaced with LED lighting in 2016, and in 2019 the cooling machine room was rebuilt and a snow pit built.
The stadium uses indirect evaporation: brine cools the ice and is itself chilled by ammonia vapours, with waste heat used to heat the resurfacer's water and the snow pit. The ice is looked after by a Zamboni 520 resurfacer and a Zamboni Power Edger.
The town's hockey club runs the stadium. In the 2026/27 season it offers public skating on Saturdays and Sundays, one Sunday session with sticks, and a Friday session for parents with small children and beginners.
