Ice hall built in 2002 by Sunderby SK, run by Luleå since 2009; roof reinforced after a 2021 closure
Sunderby ishall was built in 2002 by Sunderby sportklubb, and Luleå municipality took over running it in 2009. It has stands, changing rooms and a café, and sits next to the Sunderby sports hall and sports ground.
After the Tarfalahallen roof collapsed in Kiruna, Luleå examined all its halls with a similar roof, including this one. Surveys in summer 2021 showed that the roof beams were undersized, and on 24 November 2021 the hall was closed with immediate effect because calculations showed the roof held only 24 kilograms per square metre, a tenth of the requirement for new buildings.
The roof was reinforced over December and January, and the hall reopened to the public and clubs in January 2022. The club's hockey chair said interest in hockey is very large and that the club lacks training time even with the hall.
