Public skating at Eiszentrum Luzern: the next 7 days
Currently out of season The rink's home page announces the new winter season: the outdoor field opens on Saturday 31 October 2026 with public skating from 9:00 to 18:00, and on Sunday 1 November an open day marks the start of the season. The winter timetable page still shows last season's hours, so no weekly timetable is listed until it is updated. Checked on 4 October 2026. Official schedule update
The Eiszentrum stands where Luzern's airship halls once stood, on reed and moor ground that froze well. A natural-ice field came first, an ice hockey field followed in the 1950s, and in 1960 the Kunsteisbahn AG was founded to build two open artificial-ice fields for the public, figure skaters and hockey players. The official opening was on 16 December 1961, and in 1979 the hockey field and its stand received their first roof.
In autumn 2001 a project group set out to run the rink as an independent business without public subsidies, and the company was renamed Regionales Eiszentrum Luzern AG. Work began in February 2002 and took ten months. The new roof made public skating independent of the weather and gave curlers a four-rink hall, and the reopening in March 2003 was marked by the television show Wetten, dass..? coming to Luzern. From then until 2014 the arena was called Swiss Life Arena.
The outdoor field now covers 2,460 square metres and the hall 2,405. Home clubs are the Luzerner Curling Club (VLCC), Hockeyclub Luzern (HCL) and Eiskunstlauf Luzern (EKL).
