Nijmegen's covered rink since 1996, with a 333 m ring rink recognised by the ISU
Triavium opened in October 1996 and belongs to the municipality of Nijmegen. It succeeded the Heyendaal artificial rink, opened in 1969, which had only an ice hockey rink with room for 850 spectators. At the start, Nijmegen had only the third fully covered rink in the Netherlands, after Heerenveen and Dronten.
Under one roof are a 333 metre ring rink, an ice hockey rink and a funbaan for children, and Triavium is the only skating rink in Gelderland. The International Skating Union recognises the ring rink, and the Dutch Classics race is held there every year. The ice hockey rink, with stands for more than 1,500 spectators, is home to the Ahoud Devils Nijmegen. The NSV skating club, Bandy Nijmegen, several ice hockey clubs and the Baanvereniging Gelderse Poort skate here too.
On 3 July 2006, insulation material ignited by itself during maintenance and permanently damaged all the technical equipment, so the ring rink and funbaan stayed closed for the whole 2006-2007 season. On 24 January 2007 the owner decided to renew the rink in time for 2007-2008. In 2022-2023 the ring rink opened only in January 2023 because of a broken ice machine.
