A Prague 5 rink opened in 2023 after Nikolajka closed
SPM Arena in Prague 5 opened on 27 November 2023 as a replacement for the Nikolajka winter stadium, which had been closed during the pandemic. Nikolajka's owners had decided in summer 2022 to close it from the next season, because of rising energy prices and a lack of funds to renovate its ageing equipment.
The ice is a mobile surface measuring 26 by 58 metres, cooled by a mobile refrigeration unit. The hall has room for 50 to 100 spectators beside the players on the ice, and it has two stands. It is the home stadium of the hockey club HC Smíchov 1913.
On weekday mornings the ice serves schools, and in the afternoon it serves the club. The arena's own list of activities includes a children's carnival and a disco on ice. The stadium is described as provisional, and a permanent stadium is planned for the future.
