A frost-proof municipal hall opened in 2010

Sonkajärvi's municipal ice hall opened its doors on 5 March 2010 and is a central part of the town's sports offer. The heat-insulated hall keeps conditions suitable even in the hardest frost. The rink measures 28 by 58 metres with player and official benches, and the standing stand holds 300 spectators; during games the local sports club runs a kiosk in the lobby.

The announcing and timing equipment is adequate even for international games, and a quality scoreboard at the north end gives the public and the players the information they need. In summer the hall can be used for fairs, exhibitions and concerts as well as sport. The municipality's own public sessions, with sticks and without, are free, and a helmet is compulsory and can be borrowed at the hall.
