Year-round ice hall B opened at Mälarhöjdens IP on 23 August 2024, with a no-fall rail for figure skaters
Mälarhöjdens IP has two ice halls, A and B. Hall B opened on 23 August 2024, on ground that had been a gravel pitch 18 months earlier, and it is meant to be open all year. It was built quickly after Sätra ice hall was closed suddenly in November 2023 because of a risk of roof collapse, and the first plan, a temporary tent hall, was dropped.
Tengbom Arkitektkontor drew the hall, which has a metal facade that reflects its surroundings. The ice has six metres of clear height and standing room for 150 spectators, and figure skaters have a no-fall rail overhead and an off-ice hall. Solar panels, heat recovery from the cooling plant and extra insulation between the warm and cold parts of the building keep energy use down.
Sätra figure skating society, M/B Hockey, Brinkens IF, Djurgårdens IF and Skarpan Hockey use the new hall, and a figure skater from the Sätra society performed at the opening. The old hall A remains in use alongside it.
