An artificial rink on the site of an old tennis court
SRC Šalata lies in the middle of Zagreb, a short walk from Ban Jelačić Square. Its history begins in 1928, when the city leased brush-covered land to the Academic Tennis Club. A central tennis court was built in 1929 on the site of today's rink, and the artificial rink replaced that court in 1961.
The skating season runs from mid-November to early March. The rink serves ice hockey and synchronised skating training as well as public skating in winter, which has run as a video-disco programme since 2002, with a DJ and music videos on a video wall.
About 30,000 skaters visit in a season, and on the busiest weekends more than 2,000 pass through the rink in a day. The whole centre can hold 6,000 people, 3,500 of them on the stands and 2,500 on the ground, depending on the programme.
