North Pole's roller rink turned ice rink

Polar Ice Center began as a roller rink. It was converted to ice, and the first puck dropped on November 11, 1999. For more than 20 years afterward it hosted practices, games and other events, and it sustained itself as the only privately owned rink in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.

On July 31, 2023, ownership changed hands, and the new owners prepared for their very first season running a hockey rink. They have been adding to the building since: an ADA ramp and seating area in the 2023–24 season, the Edge Pro Shop in September 2024 and two new locker rooms that November.

Today the rink runs the IPA League and the Polar Beer & Rec league, hosts events such as its Lucky Puck tournament in March 2025, and points players to Hockey Club Fairbanks.
