One NHL-size sheet with heated seating for 500 inside Marinette's 113,000-square-foot Community REC Center
Marinette Recreation Center is the ice rink inside the city's Community REC Center, which opened to the public in January 2019 after a hockey tournament marked the opening on the Friday before. The project had been years in the making and arrived months behind its original schedule; in August 2018 the target was still a December 14 opening. Private donations paid for a large share of the building.
The rink is one part of a 113,000-square-foot municipal building that also holds an indoor soccer field, a track, basketball courts and meeting spaces. The ice is a single 85-by-200-foot NHL-dimension sheet with heated spectator seating for 500 people.
The building is the home of the Marinette Menominee Area Youth Hockey Association, the M&M Thunder, which plays at the REC Center and puts on Try Hockey for Free sessions. Quinn Finley, a local NHL prospect, returned to the Thunder for a community hockey event.
