Built in 1994 by the Lancaster County Youth Amateur Hockey League, which still owns and runs it
The Lancaster Ice Rink belongs to the Lancaster County Youth Amateur Hockey League, a not-for-profit youth hockey organization founded in 1971. The league first skated at the rink that used to operate at Park City; when that rink closed, its teams had to find ice in Hershey and Mechanicsburg. The Franklin & Marshall College Ice Rink, opened in 1984, became its next home, and programs grew there to include public skating, youth hockey, free clinics, college and men's league hockey and figure skating.
In 1994 the league's long-held dream of its own rink came true. Having saved from years of fundraising, it built the Lancaster Ice Rink in the Granite Run Corporate Center, with hundreds of volunteers helping on the construction. That makes it one of the few rinks in the United States owned and operated by a not-for-profit youth hockey organization, and a volunteer board of directors still manages it.
Today the league has more than 750 participants across youth hockey teams, learn-to-play clinics, recreational adult hockey, public skating and figure skating. The rink also hosts many scholastic teams from the CPIHL and Millersville University's men's club team, which competes in the ACHA.
