Two NHL sheets in York since 2001
York Ice Arena opened in 2001 as a 75,000-square-foot facility with two NHL-sized ice rinks and seating for 1,000. It was renovated in September 2004 and is now owned by Black Bear Sports Group, which runs it as a multi-purpose sports facility.
Hockey and figure skating share the two sheets. The York Devils Hockey Club and the White Rose Figure Skating Club are based here, alongside Central York High School, Dallastown High School and York College of Pennsylvania, plus Black Knights Academy, NextEdge Hockey Academy and the York Polar Bears.
The arena has hosted more than skating. From 2013 to 2015 it was the home field of the York Capitals of the AIF, before that team moved to Harrisburg as the Central Penn Capitals, and College Hockey East held its inaugural season playoffs on this ice in February 2014.
