Malaysia's first ice rink, open since 1997 and a long-time home of Skate Malaysia and Skate Asia
Sunway Pyramid Ice opened in 1997 as Malaysia's first ice rink, a 39 by 22.5 metre sheet that can be watched from five floors above. Its operator calls it the first ice sports entertainment venue in Malaysia and puts the use at about 15,000 skaters a month.
The rink has become a competition venue. Skate Asia, the region's biggest recreational skating competition, has used it since 1999 and was due back for a seventh edition in August 2026, Skate Malaysia has been held here 17 times since 2004, and the World Ice Hockey 5's tournament has been played here three times.
Julian Yee, who learned to skate at the rink and became Malaysia's first Winter Olympian in 2018, is its best-known skater. A skating academy runs structured coaching from beginner to competitive level.
