Opened in January 2020 after a long delay

Planet Ice Leeds on Elland Road was announced to open its doors for public skating on Friday 31 January 2020, after a long-awaited build. Its home team, the Leeds Chiefs, were the first ever hockey team to play out of the city in the National League, and for the first five months of their opening season they had to play home games elsewhere because the rink was late.

The Chiefs name was selected by Planet Ice following a fan poll, beating Cotton Kings and Mighty Mammoths. In 2021 the club changed its name to the Leeds Knights after a change of ownership, a name with ties to the Royal Armouries in Leeds. The Knights are a member of the National League and play at the rink.

Planet Ice has since announced a new sound system, disco lighting and a large media screen for the Leeds venue.
