A Finnish-built rink that replaced the Altrincham Ice Dome

Planet Ice Altrincham, formerly the Altrincham Ice Dome, is a prefabricated rink that was built in Finland and assembled from August 2006. It replaced the original Altrincham Ice Rink, which had closed in 2003, and opened its doors to public skating on 16 March 2007.

The ice pad measures 57 metres by 26 on a sand base, and the seating runs round it in a horseshoe. Its first sold-out event came on New Year's Day 2019, when Manchester Storm hosted the Sheffield Steelers in front of a capacity crowd of 2,351. The Storm have since moved to the AO Arena, but the rink still hosts the Altrincham Aces, the university team Manchester Metros and junior hockey.

Planet Ice has put its recent money into the building itself, with a new refrigeration plant and ice resurfacer, and it has promised the Manchester Storm Women multi-year backing and a new senior NIHL team from the 2027/28 season.
