Opened in December 2012, run by Planet Ice since 2017

Planet Ice Widnes is based at The Hive on Earle Road. The rink opened its doors on 21 December 2012, when it belonged to Silver Blades, and its opening was eagerly anticipated in the Halton area and beyond. Planet Ice took it over in 2017.

The Widnes Ice Skating Club calls the rink home, and Widnes Wild play their ice hockey here. The Wild were founded in 2013, play in the English Ice Hockey Association's NIHL North 1 league and have won seven trophies, including the Laidler Division championship in 2018-19. Their ladies team were Division 1 North champions in 2019/20, and the Wild Junior Academy runs teams from under 10 to under 18 alongside Learn to Play and Hockey Excellence courses.

In July 2026 Planet Ice completed a new refrigeration plant at the rink.
