The Ponds of Brookfield began as a 1995 idea from local businessman Rob Perry, out of a passion for youth sports, and opened on July 15, 1998. A 2008 renovation brought new dasher boards, seamless glass, lighting, sound and dehumidification; a new floor system followed in 2017 and a new chiller in 2020 for year-round ice. Greg Copeland took over leadership in 2021 and owns the rink today.
It is a single NHL-size sheet, 85 by 200 feet, with seating for more than 1,100, four large locker rooms plus referee and girls' locker rooms, and an atrium viewing space above the ice. In 2019 the artist Leon Keer painted 3D anamorphic artwork throughout the arena.
The Ponds is home ice for the Wisconsin Windigo, Elmbrook Youth Hockey, Brookfield High School co-op hockey, Marquette University and UW-Milwaukee. Regulars describe it as a warmer rink with slightly steep bleachers.
