Two sheets built in 1994, home ice for Lakeville Hockey; one rink was cut from Olympic to NHL size in a refit
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Ames Arena was built in 1994 as a two-sheet facility, and it remains the ice-time home of Lakeville Hockey and the organizations around it. Learn To Skate classes, public programming and figure skating share the two rinks with the hockey association.
The building's biggest change came with the replacement of its outdated R-22 refrigeration plant, the largest need among the city's arenas. An ammonia refrigeration system now runs both rinks, both rinks got new floors, and the whole facility was relit with LED lighting. One sheet changed shape in the process: it went from the Olympic-size 200-by-100-foot floor to the NHL standard 200 by 85 feet to match how the community now uses the ice.
The city expects the overhaul, documented in 2021, to save almost seventy-five thousand dollars a year in operating costs.
