South St. Paul's arena since 1962, built by 650 shareholders and city-owned since 1977.
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Doug Woog Arena was built in October 1962 as a one-sheet rink on ten acres, privately owned by Wakota Arena Incorporated, a company of 650 shareholders. The City of South St. Paul bought the arena in 1977, and it took its current name in 2015.
The building has grown in stages. Rink 2 was added in 1997 along with two large office spaces and the Community Learning Center, and a 2014 renovation converted the refrigeration system from Freon to ammonia and remodeled the original rink with six new locker rooms and an off-ice training facility.
It was once home to the USHL's St. Paul Vulcans before the team moved to the west metro and eventually to Kearney, Nebraska, and in 2003 it hosted the first Minnesota Governor's Inaugural Hockey Game. Today it is home to South St. Paul High School hockey, the South St. Paul Youth Hockey Association and the Great 8 Festival, and the Blades N Motion skating school teaches classes for all ages.
