The John V. Hoene Arena

West St. Paul's ice arena went up in 1971 for the Sibley Area youth hockey association's Warriors boys' and girls' teams. It is named for John V. Hoene (1914-2001), who coached in Duluth and West St. Paul until he was 72, helped incorporate the city's youth hockey association in 1965 and led the effort to build the rink. He was the first inductee in the West St. Paul Hockey Hall of Fame.

It is a classic, tight building: both ends of the sheet meet brick walls, so there is no walkway around the ice. A 1997 renovation added the front lobby, concessions, restrooms, offices and locker rooms.

The city replaced the floor and refrigeration system in 2015. In 2022 the West St Paul Hockey Association and the Two Rivers Hockey Boosters paid for almost all of an 8,600-square-foot addition with dedicated locker rooms for the boys' and girls' high school teams and a dryland training space, and an infrared heating upgrade followed in 2025. The arena is open year-round.
