A two-sheet 1970s city arena, home to Hastings High School hockey and the River Blades Skating School
Hastings Civic Arena was built in the 1970s and has two sheets of ice with bleacher seating. Seasonal turf goes in from mid-March through August, and the ice comes back for the hockey and skating season.
The arena is home to the Hastings High School boys and girls hockey teams and to the Hastings Hockey Boosters. Skating lessons in the building come from River Blades Skating School, whose owner and director, Amanda, took her very first skating lesson at this rink shortly after it was built and now runs her own school on the same ice in her hometown. River Blades teaches Learn to Skate, Fundamental and hockey and figure skater specialty classes here through the year.
In June 2023 the Civic Arena was set for major renovations alongside the city's Veterans Athletic Complex. The arena also hosts River Blades' annual ice show: in February 2026 the school staged "Dreaming of Disney", its 20th anniversary production, turning the rink into a theater on ice. The school's Skate with Santa holiday event, held with an open skate for families, reaches its 21st year in 2026.
