Roseville's 1969 ice arena

Roseville Ice Arena was built in 1969 to a design by architect Frank Pattee. The main entrance and lobby have been reworked since, and the biggest change came in 1993, when the John Rose Minnesota Oval, the world's largest outdoor refrigerated skating facility, was incorporated into an addition to the arena.

Inside, the arena seats 2,000 spectators, with seven locker rooms, and an indoor walking track a seventh of a mile long circles the ice, which is made with a geothermal system that also heats and cools the building. It is home to the Roseville Area High School boys' and girls' hockey teams, successors to the Alexander Ramsey Rams and the Frank B. Kellogg Chargers, along with the Roseville Figure Skating Club and the Roseville Area Youth Hockey Association. In summer the ice goes to the Midwest College and High School Hockey Leagues and to camps including the Sertich Hockey Camp.

The city's session list runs from open hockey and open figure skating to Skatercise, ISI-certified skating lessons and Adult Long Blades. In 2026 Vanessa, a coach and skate school communications coordinator for Roseville Parks and Recreation who also works with the Roseville Figure Skating Club, put it this way: "I have skated so many sheets of ice. There is nowhere I feel more comfortable than Roseville. This is home."
