The Maniototo Adventure Park in Naseby, Central Otago, has offered winter fun for all ages since it opened in 1991, with its outdoor ice rink running from June to August. The rink sits in natural surroundings, has given generations of Naseby locals hours of fun, and is a popular stop on the Central Otago Rail Trail.
The park's story is tied to curling. The sport was introduced by Scottish gold miners, with the first reported game in the Maniototo on 6 July 1878, and the Baxter Cup remains the oldest national sporting trophy still being contested. In 2006 Maniototo Curling International created the Naseby Indoor Curling Rink in the centre of Naseby.
When winter arrives the park adds outdoor curling, an ice luge, ice skating and even ice hockey. The ice luge, established in 2008, is a 360 metre track that the park describes as the only one of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
