Home of the Newcastle Northstars since 2000
Hunter Ice Skating Stadium opened in 2000 in Warners Bay on Lake Macquarie. It is the home ice of the Newcastle Northstars, who play in the Australian Ice Hockey League and the East Coast Super League, and it holds 1,000 spectators and a jumbotron that the stadium says is the first and only one at an ice rink in Australia.
The Hunter Ice Skating Club formed here in 2001, and the stadium has hosted fourteen AIHL regular-season matches a year since 2002. The Newcastle In House Hockey League is based here, and the AIHL finals weekend has been played in the building four times, in 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2012.
In April 2008 it hosted the IIHF World Championship Division II Group B tournament, when Australia won promotion.
