Built in 1955, home of the North Bay Battalion

North Bay Memorial Gardens was built in 1955, and the arena kept that name until January 2025, when the City announced that Boart Longyear had bought the naming rights. The North Bay Centennials played here from 1982 until 2002, when the team moved to Saginaw, Michigan.

A renovation of about $12 million readied the building for the Ontario Hockey League’s North Bay Battalion, who arrived for the 2013-14 season on a 15-year lease. The work raised the seating capacity, reconfigured the 200-by-85-foot ice surface to OHL standards and added 10 private boxes and a two-level team dressing room. The Battalion and Nipissing University’s Lakers men’s and women’s teams are the main tenants today, with the Battalion running ticketing for events.

The Gardens drew the Atlanta Thrashers and New York Islanders for a 2007 pre-season game after North Bay was named Hockeyville, and it hosted the 2013 World Ringette Championships and the 2018 World Women’s Curling Championship.
