A $63-million twin-pad arena at the Steve Omischl Sports Field Complex, opened August 22, 2026.
WFCU Place opened on August 22, 2026, with a ribbon-cutting at the Steve Omischl Sports Field Complex on Lakeshore Drive in West Ferris, ending a twin-pad project that North Bay had debated, redesigned and worked on for more than a decade. One longtime advocate on the advisory committee recalled the plan going through several versions over the years.
EllisDon built it through a progressive design-build process. Inside are two regulation-sized ice pads, an indoor walking track, community meeting space and 14 dressing rooms, and the City lists it among the recreation spaces of the sports field complex outside. It is one of the first full-sized recreation facilities in Canada to meet the Canada Green Building Council’s Zero Carbon Design V3 standard, and federal funding of more than $35 million paid for much of it.
The opening weekend had free public skating, shinny and family activities, with local sports groups putting on demonstrations and games.
