The Sky Skate in Old Market Square
Nottingham Winter Wonderland builds its ice rink in Old Market Square. Skaters get a ground-level rink, the Sky Skate ice path and a dedicated children's rink with penguin skate aids, and standard admission covers both the ice rink and the Sky Skate. The ice on all of them is real. Beside it, the alpine Ice Bar has ice sculptures, and the Observation Wheel towers above the square.
The Old Market Square is one of the largest paved squares in the United Kingdom, dominated at its eastern end by the Council House. The early market square, from the 11th century until 1928, covered about 5.5 acres, and the Goose Fair was moved in 1928 for the redevelopment of the square. It is affectionately nicknamed 'Slab Square'.
