West Carleton's arena, built in the early 1980s

The W. Erskine Johnston Arena was built in Carp in the early 1980s to serve West Carleton Township. It is named for William Erskine Johnston, a Carp-born Progressive Conservative who represented Carleton in the Ontario legislature from 1955 to 1971, in recognition of his long public service.

The West Carleton Skating Club skates here. In 2018 the arena got West Carleton's first junior hockey team, the Inferno of the National Capital Junior Hockey League, which came into existence after the league's Blackburn Inferno folded and played a 34-game Junior C season. Owner John Miotla told West Carleton Online it was the perfect place: a great arena, bright and with big dressing rooms. The team played here as the West Carleton Inferno until 2021, when it became the Almonte Inferno.
