Built for the 1991 Canada Winter Games

The Eastlink Centre opened in the fall of 1990 as the Charlottetown Civic Centre, built as the principal venue for the 1991 Canada Winter Games, which Prince Edward Island hosted that February. Complaints about wasted space and a lack of seating down to the boards led to a 2003 redesign that added seats down to the glass and luxury boxes, and in 2013 the city sold the naming rights and the building became the Eastlink Centre.

The building pairs an NHL-size arena, now holding 3,718 people, with a 40,000-square-foot trade centre. It has been home to the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, formerly the PEI Rocket, since the team moved from Montreal in 2003, and was home to the AHL's Prince Edward Island Senators from 1993 to 1996.

Its ice has hosted the 1999 Scott Tournament of Hearts, the 2003 Royal Bank Cup, the 2006 Telus Cup, the 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the 2023 Canada Games, and the 2027 Scotties are set for February 2027. Stompin' Tom Connors was the first act to play there.
