Charlottetown's rebuilt Simmons Sports Centre, opened in December 2024

The new Simmons Sports Centre opened on December 2, 2024, replacing the original Simmons Sports Centre, which had served residents for more than 50 years and stood next to the new building on North River Road until it was demolished that year. Construction began in January 2022, and the opening was pushed back from October 14 after a leak in the arena's concrete floor slab kept staff from making ice. The CA$33.6 million project was funded in part by the federal and provincial governments.

The arena has an NHL-size 85-by-200-foot ice surface, six dressing rooms and seating for 590, plus a warm room of more than 1,200 square feet overlooking the ice and a two-lane walking track on the second level. About 60 per cent of the Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association's teams have about 60 per cent of their weekly ice time here, and the Charlottetown Ringette Association planned a major tournament in the building's first January.
