Host of the 2017 RBC Cup
The Cobourg Community Centre was built in 2011 as a community hub with meeting rooms and two ice pads, the Bowl Arena and the Pond Arena. The Bowl seats 2,000 in nine rows of black plastic seats with a running track behind them, a four-sided LED video board hangs over centre ice, and the Cobourg Sports Hall of Fame plaques line its east wall at track level.
The Bowl is home to the Cobourg Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League's East division. Junior hockey came to Cobourg in 1964, brought by Ken Medhurst, Dick Robinson, Clarke Sommerville and Jeff Rolph. Major Series Lacrosse's Cobourg Kodiaks play in the Bowl in summer, and Northumberland Minor Hockey rents ice here for more than five hours a night.
From May 13 to 21, 2017, the centre hosted the Royal Bank Cup, the national junior A championship. The host Cougars won it, with the Brooks Bandits runners-up, and the national champions' banner now hangs in the Bowl.
