Opened October 15, 1948 and named for a doctor who served Marmora for 35 years; new building opened in 1991
The Doctor Hamilton Crawford Arena in Marmora was officially opened on October 15, 1948, with about 2000 people in attendance. Deloro Smelting and Refining Co. contributed to the cost on the condition that it carry the name of Dr. Crawford, a doctor who had served the village for 35 years. Artificial ice was added in 1952.
The first building was altered more than once. Dressing rooms were enlarged and a small community hall was added upstairs in 1968. The Ministry of Labour ordered the arena closed on 30 October 1974, and in 1975 the structure was reinforced to present day standards. The arena was condemned in 1988, and the new building had its grand opening on February 17, 1991.
A formal figure skating club was established with the opening of the new arena in 1991, and the Dr. Hamilton Crawford Memorial Arena held its 65th anniversary celebration in 2013. After its chiller was replaced, it opened for the 2025/2026 ice season on Saturday, September 6th, 2025.
