Northern Nevada's first year-round indoor NHL-size rink, opened January 18, 2021 by a nonprofit
Reno Ice: The Jennifer O'Neal Community Ice Arena opened on January 18, 2021, as the first year-round, indoor NHL regulation-sized rink in northern Nevada. The Greater Reno Community Ice Skating Association, a 501(c)(3) formed for the sole purpose of building and running a rink, spent nearly a decade planning and fundraising before opening; until then, locals in ice sports were commuting to Lake Tahoe for the nearest sheet. The first phase cost about $9.5 million, funded by donations that included a $2 million start-up gift from the family of the late Jennifer M. O'Neal, the rink's namesake.
The 47,063-square-foot building sits on part of a six-acre lease in the South Valleys Regional Sports Complex and holds a single NHL-sized sheet. The Reno Ice Raiders, Nevada Men's Hockey, the Sierra Nevada Figure Skating Club and Reno Veteran Hockey are the building's partner organizations, and programs run from youth and adult hockey to figure skating, sled hockey and homeschool skating.
Learn to Skate USA enrollment has grown from 300 in the first year to more than 1,000, and a Redfield Foundation-backed scholarship program means no child is turned away for inability to pay. As of August 2026 a second phase is planned, with a second sheet of ice, another set of locker rooms, bleachers and the completed mezzanine.

Online registration is not required and walk-ins are welcome subject to capacity, though the rink recommends booking ahead over holidays and in winter. Booking is through the Dash portal. Instead of a paper waiver you are given a wristband carrying the waiver text at the front desk; it is required for admittance and must be worn for the whole session.

Skate monitors help children on the ice but do not supervise them; a parent or guardian must.
