Built in patchwork fashion by the park district and opened in 2000; a 100-by-90-foot outdoor sheet
Currently out of season The Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District's Ice Rink page says the Truckee Ice Rink is closed for the season; it lists public skate times (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays) and fees for the rink at Truckee River Regional Park. Official schedule update
The Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District built the Truckee Ice Rink after its general manager, Steve Randall, took his kids to the Reno Ice Rink in the late 1990s and decided Truckee needed one. The district assembled it in patchwork fashion, buying dasher boards from a shutdown roller rink and a condenser ice machine at a discount and recycling old conveyor belts from Teichert Aggregates as rubber padding for the walkways. The rink in Truckee River Regional Park opened to the public in 2000.
The sheet is 100 by 90 feet, significantly smaller than a regulation rink. In 2015 a community group, the Truckee-Tahoe Ice Rink Project, proposed enlarging it to the regulation 185 by 85 feet and adding a roof, which the district board approved in November of that year. By then the adult hockey league had grown from four teams to 13 and the rink was used seven days a week for hockey. It remains a seasonal outdoor rink.
