Opened July 1, 2000, in memory of Amelia Ferst
Amelia Park Arena opened on July 1, 2000, together with its memorial garden. Albert F. Ferst built the nonprofit rink to commemorate his late wife Amelia, who had dreamed of an ice rink for the children of the community, and a portrait of the couple greets visitors at the main door.
It is the only ice rink in Westfield: a 47,000-square-foot building around an NHL-size sheet, with an outdoor dek and inline rink and the 1.3-acre Amelia's Garden outside. The arena is home to Westfield Youth Hockey, the Westfield High School Bombers and Westfield State University, whose hockey teams practice and play home games here, and it has also hosted St. Mary's High School and sled hockey games.
The arena counts more than 50,000 visitors a year from Westfield and the wider Pioneer Valley.
