Macquarie Ice Rink opened in 1981 as a recreational and sporting venue in northern Sydney, on the first floor of Macquarie Centre. Its 60 m by 30 m sheet is the only Olympic-sized ice rink in Sydney. The Macquarie Bears hockey club was founded here in 1982, the rink hosted the 1991 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships, and in 2000 it was the venue for the first Australian Ice Hockey League final.
Its future was in doubt in January 2019, when the centre's owner announced plans to demolish it. A petition to save the rink gathered more than 20,000 signatures, and on 1 February 2019 the owner confirmed that its redevelopment plans would keep an Olympic-sized rink. The Sydney Bears, who started out here, returned in 2017 and share the building with the Sydney Ice Dogs, both Australian Ice Hockey League teams.
The rink closed in May 2025 for a rebuild that brought new pipes and slabs, new seating and plexiglass walls around the perimeter of the ice, and it reopened on 20 December 2025.
