Billingham Forum's rink, opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1967 and home of the Billingham Stars.
Billingham Forum Ice Arena sits inside the Forum leisure complex, which Queen Elizabeth II officially opened in October 1967 after construction started in 1960. On the same visit she unveiled Family Group, a statue by Edward Bainbridge Copnall, and in its first year the complex drew 20,000 to 25,000 visitors a week. Hockey followed: the Billingham Bombers formed in 1971, became founder members of the British Hockey League in 1982 as the Cleveland Bombers, and played in the top-flight Premier League in 1982-86 and 1990-94.
The Forum closed in 2009 for an £18.5m redevelopment that upgraded the ice rink, and it reopened in 2011; an estimated 200 people skated in the first hour. Spectators watch from a seated gallery served by a passenger lift. Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council owns the arena and Tees Active manages it.
Hockey returned in 2011/12 with Billingham Stars, who play in the northern section of the English National Ice Hockey League's first division and won back-to-back league titles in 2023/24 and 2024/25, along with the 2025 Moralee Cup. Billingham Buccaneers play in the second division, the recreational Cleveland Comets play their games here, and the long-established Billingham Ice Skating Club stages the annual ice pantomime.
